Quick actions of our G&K employee helps to save 3 lives.

The quick thinking action of one of our York CCTV operators helped to save the lives of three people recently.

During an early morning in July, Ron Nickson, one of our CCTV Operators, spotted an ‘’unusual ripple’’ in the water, after analysing live CCTV footage, across the River Ouse. He immediately panned the camera left and noticed one male and one female in the river, before noticing another female struggling to swim nearby.

Ron immediately called York police and then guided them through the best points of rescue so that the fire service crew could launch the brigade rescue boat, to save all three people.

Thankfully, everyone was rescued conscious and unharmed and transported to York District Hospital, for further checks.

Police said on Twitter that morning “Happy to report that no persons were seriously injured and council cameras were able to alert police prior to an emergency call even being made. “Top teamwork by all involved.”

Gough and Kelly are proud to have such a vigilant employee, within their CCTV control room team and have awarded Ron with an MVP award and a special ‘dine for two’ voucher. He has also received an ‘Above and Beyond’ certificate from the City of York Council.
